Description
Rouse's
classic book has been thoroughly revised for the modern students by Anne
Mahoney.
This text is the central Greek textbook,
written by W.H.D. Rouse and revised for modern audiences by Anne Mahoney. This
text was modeled on the "direct method" of language learning, which
is nearly an immersion program where as much of the work of teaching and
learning is conducted in the native language. The key advantage to such an
approach is that students are actively involved in a language. They learn not
only to read it, but to speak and write in it.
Market
Primary text for the first year, two semester course in ancient Greek
that wishes to use a reading or immersion approach. This text is designed for courses in the
introduction to classical Greek using the "direct method" of
learning. This method is a near immersion method in which much of the course
and the book as possible is done in Greek, relying less on translation and more
on acquiring skills in reading, speaking and thinking in the target language.
